The Battlefield Hardline open beta is open on the 3rd. If you’re unfamiliar with Hardline, let me give you a few juicy details.

Cops and Robbers: You read that right. This game is now introducing the cops and robbers game type into the Battlefield setting. I had the opportunity to play the closed beta a little bit a while back, and it was fantastic. You can play on either side as well. Each side has an arsenal and vehicles dedicated to their side, as well as gadgets. With the criminals, you can perform heists and zip-line out of the scene, or rob an armored truck. As an officer, it’s your task to stop them. You can either pull that trigger, or seize and detain them. It ideally feels like it should be DLC, but overall it’s still loads of fun.

Mechanics: As with any new sequel these days, there is new mechanics that come along. Single player will be filled with all of these. You can flash your badge at criminals and ask them to stop, or use the new scanner system and see if someone has any outstanding warrants. You can even distract criminals as well, which will be a nice touch.

Maps: While the beta only has a tiny selection of what you can do, there will be more expansive maps. You can be playing in the small confines of a few blocks of downtown in a city, or trying to make it across the bridge to safety. I’m sure there will also be more maps released as DLC later, which will be a great addition with all these new game types that will be coming.

Game Modes: Here’s what a few of you have been waiting for. Of course we have the classic staples in Battlefield history like Conquest and Team Deathmatch, but we’ve also got a few new game types that will be loads of fun.

Heist requires just that. A bank heist. You have to break into the vault and grab 2 bags of cash and get out as soon as possible and return them to the required points. The cops have to stop the robbers, if they can that is.

Blood Money is another interesting one. A huge pile of money is at stake here. The criminals are trying to capture the loot, while the police are trying to bring it back as evidence. You can also raid the enemy teams vault to get some of that money back.

Hotwire. This seems like a lot of fun. The criminals have to gather a set list of marked cars, kinda Gone In 60 Seconds style, and take them to the required point, while the police have to ensure that that doesn’t happen.

Rescue. This is a hostage situation game type. You can gear up as a SWAT member and try to navigate into this dangerous situation and try to get the hostages out. I do not think there is the chance to play as a criminal in this type, but also keep in mind. There is no second chances and no second lives in this type.

Crosshair seems very interesting. Long story short, a former criminal is now a witness and he is running from his former group of miscreants because they want him dead, while the police have to ensure his safety and get him out of the hot zone.

Feel free to download the beta on Origin on PC and join in on the fun. The beta is completely free. It will also be available to all console users as well.

See you on the battlefield!
